Summer of Service 2012 – Ecuador Info
As many of you know I will be going to Ecuador for the summer as an intern for Inca Link (www.incalink.org). I leave May 25th (this Friday) and return August 8. This ministry is made possible through the Summer of Service program provided by Northwestern College Campus Ministries and sponsored and supported by you financially and/or through your prayers!
As an intern I will be leading teams from the United States in a variety of missions in and around Quito, the capital of Ecuador. I will be staying, along with the other interns, there are about 7 of us, with missionaries on property called Casa Blanca. Literally translated ‘White House.’ This is where they also house short-term mission teams and interns. Also, on the property is housed a program for helping and educating pregnant teens.
Some of the missions that we will be involved with include day cares in a garbage dump, construction projects, orphanages, indigenous ministry in the jungle, and church planting. We as interns are also encouraged to do a special project within the community. This project will take place between teams.
I won’t be going alone. I will be going with two other students from Northwestern. Jen Angus from Mount Ayr, IA and my good friend Derek Drenth from Elsworth, MN will be with me this summer.
Contact this summer will be somewhat limited. I won’t have phone service to call or text, but I will have Skype, email, and this blog as my formal communication. I will have Facebook and twitter, but I want to limit myself. I want to be in the moment there. I want to be aware of my surroundings and building relationships there without having to worry too much about what is going on here in the States. I won’t forget you. In fact I will think about you all often. Don’t worry I will keep you updated here and tell you about my experiences when I get back.
I am excited and nervous for all the joys and challenges that I face this summer. I think right now I am most nervous about changing planes and trying not to miss any flights. Please be praying for me this Friday and through out the summer for strength, courage, peace, and for the Holy Spirit to do its work in Ecuador. Also, be praying for my family as well as it is hard for them to see me go so far away for so long.
Thank you all for your continued prayers, encouragement, and support! God bless you.
AaronI will be posting pictures and updates on the home page of my blog. You can also see any tweets that I may tweet on the side panel of this page.
